It's been a long time since I've blogged, but I wanted to talk about what I'm up to this summer since I'm not teaching any classes right now. As most of my faculty friends and former students know, Sabatino and I are expecting a baby girl in October. I'm going to still teach Professions in Writing Arts in the fall since it's only a 5-week class and (fingers crossed) will be able to fit it in before the baby comes.
Also, I've just started working with Sandy on the WPA will soon be updating the department's web page as well. Specifically, my current duties will include working on the WPA Self-study and coordination of on-site visit. The Writing Program Administrators’ consultant/evaluator service helps the program to assure we are doing all that we can to be effective (as Sandy said, it's the closest a program can come to accreditation). We start with a comprehensive self-study meetings for the two consultant/evaluators need to be arranged and managed. I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to assist Sandy in:
a. Helping to identify thematic concerns in the department that will help focus and structure the self-study.
b. Gathering materials that will be used to write the self-study and/or will appear in the appendices.
c. Assisting in putting the self-study together, including working with coordinators and other relevant parties.
d. Helping with editing and revising of the document.
e. Scheduling the numerous meetings the consultant/evaluators will have during their visit.
f. Other duties related to the self-study, as they arise.
Since I'll only be teaching the one 5-week course in the fall, from now through the fall, I'll also be working on website revision, as the current Writing Arts webpage is in desperate need of revision. I've been asked to:
a. Rethink the design of the pages, although there are some limitations to what I'm allowed to do here
b. Revise content for the pages, some of which are out of date
c. Create new content for pages
Also I'll be working on Programmatic Assessment for the Major in Writing Arts, where I will work on creating a revision of the current survey instrument for graduating seniors to better understand the experiences of our graduates. Data has been collected for years using an older survey, so I'll be evaluating that and analyzing the previous data.
In addition, I'm taking over as the Adjunct Review Committee chair and the Managing Editor of the FYW Student Guide.
So I guess I'll be busy during my maternity time. :) Looking forward to it.
