I've chosen to begin a blog of many colors-- I couldn't possibly write just one blog about my teaching experiences, when I find myself wanting to blog along with my Professions students, sharing feedback and failures. I also find myself blogging just for my WRT students, to share tips about embedding Prezis into their Weebly pages, or to talk about the importance of captioning photos for a photo essay. I'm beginning a blog that does all of those things. This is my professorly blog. I'll try not to rant about my new disdain for Anthony Bourdain here and I'll avoid sharing stories about how my sister sometimes stresses me out.
I would like to say in this opening blog that I feel incredibly fortunate to be a college professor. As someone who was quite shy as an undergraduate (not my best years), I feel lucky that I can connect to students on a lot of different levels as people... after all, we were all students once.
But there is anxiety in blogging and sharing your writing with others. My students share this anxiety every semester. But see? This isn't so bad. Let's put ourselves out there as writers, as educators, as savvy (or not-so-savvy technology users) and see what happens.
